Wilderness and Expedition Medicine Courses

Wilderness and Expedition Medicine

Course Structure and Content

Like the introductory course, this five-day course includes lecture presentations, skills workshops, scenario-based teaching and practical exercises to develop the requisite knowledge and skills necessary to function as an expedition or remote area medic.  As well as dealing with topics in more detail than on the two-day course, additional subjects such as tropical diseases, travel medicine and a full day of wilderness skills are included on this course.  The course includes considerable 'hands-on' practice and involves some physical activity with the majority of the skills workshops and practical training taking place in the outdoor environment.  The course is ideal for healthcare professionals wishing to practice as an expedition medic but is also suitable for experienced expedition leaders and outdoor instructors.  The course concludes with theory and practical assessments on the final day before the award of the certificate.  Course content exceeds the first aid training requirements for MTA qualifications.

The course faculty includes doctors, paramedics, offshore medics, military and tactical medics, nurses and wilderness skills/survival instructors. Between them they have vast experience in pre-hospital care, remote area medicine and expedition medicine and have worked in some of the World's most beautiful as well as inhospitable and dangerous locations.

Prior to the course, candidates receive full joining instructions, including a required kit list, and a detailed timetable.  Upon successful completion of the course, candidates will receive the Remote Medic UK Certificate in Wilderness and Expedition Medicine.
